Junk Food “Addiction” And Nighttime Snacking

Junk Food “Addiction” And Nighttime Snacking

Clean it up

This means focusing on cleaning up our food, self-care, cleaning products, homes, and the information we feed our brains.

Let’s discuss a BIG AREA that many people have trouble with when it comes to cleaning up their nutrition: NIGHTTIME Snacking!

Because I am sure you can relate to what I shared with a client, I wanted to share it. (We can all relate!)

Are you familiar with “ultra-processed food”?

This is the new buzzword for packaged snacks, pizza and anything that has a lot of sugar, fat, salt or other ingredients to make them more appealing and tastier.

You may feel a craving for these foods, which can trigger an addiction-like response.

These foods can be detrimental to your health and may even make it worse.

My client was achieving her goals of exercising, drinking more water and eating clean food, as well as getting fresh air and sun.

She even made it a point of telling herself how proud she was for her actions! (LOVE THAT!)

After she was done cleaning up, she felt compelled to eat these processed foods ….. Every night, she caved in.

For years, she was a nighttime snacker and this got worse in 2020. She really wanted to reduce her snacking but was unsure what to do.

After some brainstorming, we came up with a solution that would work for her family and her life.

It is something I have recommended to many clients.

To help her stop snacking, she changed her evening habits. She did this in a way that helped her get rid of the “nighttime snacking” habit.

She did this by completing a home-organization project, then getting to bed early and staying away (the trigger), from which the snacking was always.

This is a great idea, as it removes the cue (TV + couch), to grab junk food.

It worked! She thought about snacking the first few nights, but then she started to get busy with her project.

You may need to temporarily remove triggers to stop a habit from repeating.

This tip is straight from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Consider how you could apply these principles in your OWN daily life.

Are there times in your day that you find it difficult to reach your fitness goals? It doesn’t have to be all about willpower. A little brainstorming can help find a solution that is a lot easier.

…. Expert guidance is available for those who need it. This is what we love to do! Simple tweaks can produce incredible results.

Let’s talk about how we can help you, just as we have helped others achieve their goals.
